Digital I/O

The Digital I/O event interface module allows the BlueSky Messaging System to connect to a Digital I/O hardware device to receive and send digital Input/Output signals.

The Digital I/O hardware device can be connected to dry relay contacts and electrical wiring to receive input signals from otherwise simple devices. This allows the system to monitor electrical devices for signals, such as doors being opened and closed. Each digital input can be configured with a message to be sent when the signal is asserted (the signal becomes active) and dis-asserted (the signal clears). These messages can be configured with a message subject, message body, message priority and destination. Each input signal may also be inverted, allowing handling of both normally closed and normally open contacts. The Digital I/O hardware device also provides a range of outputs that the BlueSky Messaging System can enable and disable, allowing it to send electrical signals to components such as LEDs and buzzers.

Key features

The Key features of this module are:

  • Receive digital input signals and send messages when signals change.
  • Send digital output signals to control other devices.
  • Control digital output signals from a webpage, or from other modules.
  • View the current digital input and output status from a web page in realtime.
  • Each input can be configured with filters which require the input to be asserted or dis-asserted for a period of time before being triggered.
  • Digital I/O hardware modules come in two forms:
    • 8 Inputs, 8 Outputs
    • 6 Inputs, 0 Outputs

Use cases

Some example use cases for this module include:

  • Monitor fridge doors to prevent food from being spoiled by connecting a dry relay contact, sending a message when the door is left open for too long.
  • Connect push buttons in harsh environments to send SoloTraxx alarms in case of emergency.
  • Flash warning lights when an alarm is enabled to warn of an alarm being active.
