BlueSky Communicator: Privacy Policy

BlueSky Wireless Ltd built the BlueSky Communicator app. This SERVICE is provided by BlueSky Wireless Ltd and is intended for use as is.

This page is used to inform visitors regarding our policies with the collection, use, and disclosure of Personal Information if anyone decided to use our Service.

If you choose to use our Service, then you agree to the collection and use of information in relation to this policy. The Personal Information that we collect is used for providing and improving the Service. We will not use or share your information with anyone except as described in this Privacy Policy.

The BlueSky Communicator communicates with your company’s BlueSky Messaging Gateway, and all data is stored on that BlueSky Messaging Gateway.

What & Why

For a better experience, while using our Service, we may require you to provide us with certain identifiable information. The information that we request will be retained by us and used as described in this privacy policy.

Unique Device Identifier

We assign your device a unique identifier number when the app first starts. This identifier is tied only to your device, and is stored on your device. It is transmitted to your BlueSky Messaging Gateway and used to license devices on the BlueSky Messaging Gateway.

Unique Session Identifier

When you log in to the app, a unique session identifier is generated for your login session. This session identifier is tied to your login, and when you log out or your session expires the session identifier is deleted. It is stored in encrypted storage on your device, and stored on your BlueSky Messaging Gateway. This is used to identify which user you are logged in as.

Device Information

When you login, the following device information is collected and transmitted to your BlueSky Messaging Gateway:

  • Device Manufacturer
  • Device Model
  • Device Name
  • OS Version

This information is transmitted when you login to the BlueSky Communicator app, and is used by your BlueSky Messaging Gateway to register your device for the first time if your device has not previously been registered with the system. It is used to generate a name for your device, which is made up of the make, model and device name.

Device Activity

The app collects details of several events that occur on the device and reports them back to your BlueSky Messaging Gateway. These events are used to determine which devices are within active use, which can in turn be used to free up device licences on the BlueSky Messaging Gateway. The events captured are:

  • Device Boot Up (Android only)
  • App open
  • Login
  • Logout

These events are reported back to the server, along with the Device Identifier for the deice, and the time the event occurred at.

Push Notifications

We use push notifications to send you alerts of new messages. In order to send push notifications, we use the following services:

  • On Android Devices: Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM)
  • On Apple Devices: Apple Push Notification Services (APNS)

These services require unique tokens to identify devices to allow push notifications to be sent to them. We store these unique tokens on the BlueSky Cloud Service in order to send you notifications for new messages.

If you no longer wish to receive push notifications for new messages, you can turn these off in your device’s settings. Note that you will no longer be notified of any new messages.

Location Information

We require location access so that we can monitor the SSID of the Wi-Fi network that you are connected to. This information never leaves your device, and we only ever access the Wi-Fi SSID (and not your exact location such as via co-ordinates).

We use the SSID that you’re connected to so that we can determine whether it’s possible to communicate directly with your BlueSky Messaging Gateway rather than communicating through the BlueSky Cloud Service.

The information describing how to connect directly to your BlueSky Messaging Gateway is provided via Managed Device Configuration by your company’s IT team. This information is configured depending on the Wi-Fi SSID.

Use With SoloTraxx Lone Worker Monitoring

When your BlueSky Messaging System has the SoloTraxx Lone Worker module installed and your logged-in user account is permitted to use SoloTraxx Lone Worker Monitoring, your device will monitor your device’s location via the following means:

  • GPS data
  • SSID, BSSID, and RSSI of the currently connected Wi-Fi access point.

This data will be periodically reported back to the BlueSky Messaging System and associated with the username of the logged-in user and the unique device ID of the device for the duration of the SoloTraxx Lone Worker Monitoring being enabled on the device.

Users must start and stop the SoloTraxx Lone Worker monitoring from the SoloTraxx tab at the bottom of the app.

This data is used so that if a SoloTraxx Lone Worker Alarm is triggered, the location of the device and the user may be reported to the SoloTraxx response group.

Microphone Data

If you choose to send a Speech Message on the Send Message screen by pressing the Record Speech button, we will capture audio from the microphone on your device. The recording has a maximum duration of 20 seconds, and can be stopped by pressing the Stop button. Once recording is finished, you can listen back to the recorded audio and optionally delete it.

The recorded audio is stored on your device until you press the Send Message button. At this point, recorded audio will be transmitted back to your BlueSky Messaging Gateway and to the recipient that you specified when writing the message.

Activity Recognition And Accelerometer Access

When your BlueSky Messaging System has the SoloTraxx Lone Worker module installed and your logged-in user account is permitted to use SoloTraxx Lone Worker Monitoring, your device will monitor your device’s accelerometer and steps for the duration of the SoloTraxx Lone Worker Monitoring being enabled on the device.

Users must start and stop the SoloTraxx Lone Worker monitoring from the SoloTraxx tab at the bottom of the app.

The accelerometer and step data is used to monitor for various conditions such as:

  • No movement
  • Fast movement (e.g. shaking)
  • Fall detection

If any of these conditions are detected, they are reported back to the BlueSky Messaging System and associated with the username of the logged-in user and the unique device ID of the device for the duration of the SoloTraxx Lone Worker Monitoring being enabled on the device. Raw data from the accelerometer and activity tracking does not leave the device.

Cellular and WiFi connectivity

When the MDM controlled managed app configuration setting “monitorDeviceConnectivity” is enabled and a local connection is configured within the managed app restrictions, the device will monitor:

  • SSID, BSSID, and RSSI of the currently connected Wi-Fi access point.
  • Cellular operator, roaming status, connection status, network type, whether data is enabled, and signal level.
  • Battery status including whether the device is charging (and whether charging via AC adapter or USB cable), and battery level as a percentage.

This data will be periodically reported back to the BlueSky Messaging System to provide monitoring of connectivity status for devices, and will be associated with the unique device ID of the device.
